The Finer Things In Life? More like, the Fiber Things In Life!
A word pun come up in my brain and thought I'd share my elaboration on this.
The Fiber Things In Life - explained.
Living a good life, to me, includes the finer things in life such as visiting musea to see art from the Dutch Masters (I’m Dutch after all…), an exquisite dining experience elevated by the company I’m with, wearing clothes from the finest fabrics, and the likes. You get where I’m going with this.
What do these all have in common, except from being part of my taste palette? They are all made from materials.
You see, we live in a material world (cue: Madonna) and - as the song goes - I am a material girl. If you are reading this, you are materialistic too, and it’s not so much of a bad thing as one may like us to believe. I mean, without liking and owning material things, you wouldn’t be able to see this for example.
What matters though is what these materials are, and more importantly: how these materials became the form you find them in to be in an aesthetically pleasing state.
In todays environment, we throw away so much trash - trash made up of materials that are no longer valued.
If we care about a cleaner environment, where microplastics do not end up inside our bodies, then something has to change. Sooner than later.
So the next time we buy something, what if we first ask: what materials is this made from and where do these end up eventually ?
That’s all.
